Amazon Rekognition : Facial Analysis and Face Comparison

It’s been a while I am not writing about AWS services.

This time I would like to try Facial Analysis and Face Comparison feature of Amazon Rekognition.

1. Facial Analysis

In this feature, we can get the information about where faces are detected in an image or video, facial attributes such as the position of eyes, and detected emotions like appears to be happy or smiling, etc.

The procedure of how to get Facial Analysis is also interesting. You can just upload the image file which contains face then Amazon Rekognition will detect it. As a result, it will show the attributes of detected face with percentage.

This is the example of Facial Analysis by Amazon Rekognition.

Now, let’s try to upload one custom photo and check the result.

It will detect the face and return percentage of face attributes as results. How do you think for the results? Is it accurate? ^^

2. Face Comparison

Before talking about Face Comparison feature of Amazon Rekognition, let’s see what we can do with Face Comparison. Mainly we could use in verifying faces, identify people and searching for faces, etc.

In Amazon Rekognition, you can compare the faces by uploading two or more images. As a result, it will show the similarity of detected faces with percentage.

This article is using demo features of Amazon Rekognition and there is no cost, everyone can try if they have AWS account with AWS Free Tier for 12 months.

After that period, you have to pay according to This Pricing.

You can check and try the features of Amazon Rekognition at the following link:
